From Android 4.3 on, there's a built-in feature called App Ops, which is a permissions manager that lets you revoke them one by one, while keeping the app installed. Obviously some of those permissions are needed for the app to run properly. Some of them aren't. If you can identify those questionable permissions, you can now disable/enable them from App Ops.
App Ops is a hidden system app which means that it requires following some steps to "unlock" it. App Ops 4.3 / 4.4 KitKat by Lars Team does it for you. You just need to download the app and let it do everything automatically.
Just swipe to navigate through categories (location, personal, messaging, device), select any app you want to enable/disable permissions and tap on it. There you'll see all permissions listed and toggles to switch them on/off. That easy.
